Pay-off time for Punter

Losing a close match may very well build character. But winning the contest can build self-confidence as well as character. There is no need to settle for less.

A carefree bloke who plays a mean game of golf, breeds greyhounds and loves a gamble (hence his nickname 'Punter'), Ricky Ponting was haunted early in his career by these very facets of his nature.

Maturity and marriage appear to have changed all that. Ten centuries in his last 19 Tests show that he has arrived on the world stage in a big, big way.
