Tamil Nadu pocketed two points for securing the first innings lead as their four-day Ranji Trophy 'Elite' Group 'A' match against Gujarat ended in a tame draw at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad, on Thursday.
Gujarat, who were trailing by 109 runs in reply to the visitor's first innings score of 372 yesterday, were bowled out for 323. Their young leg spinner Timil Patel scored an impressive 51.
Tamil Nadu left arm spinner R Ramkumar finished with five wickets.
The visitors had a shaky start to their second innings when they lost four wickets, with the scoreboard reading 29. However, middle-order batsmen S Vishwanathan, S Vidyut and S R Ganesh Kumar smacked fine half centuries to help Tamil Nadu post 208, before both captains agreed to settle for a draw nearly 45 minutes before the scheduled close of play.
An aggresive Vidyut slammed six fours and four massive sixers in a 68-ball 68 while S R Ganesh Kumar hit four boundaries and a six for his unbeaten 55 that came off 63 balls.
Vishwanathan was relatively patient, scoring 56 off 143 deliveries.
Tamil Nadu now have 11 points from four outings while Gujarat have four from three matches.
