Questions Colonel R E Williams did not answer

This is an unedited, verbatim version.

Indian (Tue Jul 13 1999 4:44 IST)
Col R E Williams: Words cannot describe the feelings of Indians worldwide (I myself am in New York, USA) at this glorious victory! India ALWAYS had the greatest faith in her armed forces. I am glad you were able to deliver, despite the tough circumstances and the politicking going on all around. CONGRATULATIONS!

Harikishen (Tue Jul 13 1999 4:49 IST)
What changes do you see taking place in our military infrastructure? Do we plan to invest more in arms?

Indian (Tue Jul 13 1999 4:53 IST)
Col R E Williams: (repeat Q) As a result of this 'war', do you see any sweeping changes in the command structure of the Armed Forces? I mean, do you see the creation of a Joint Chiefs of Staff (akin to the US military) which can co-ordinate the activities of ALL the branches of the Armed Forces? Also, do you see any changes in the Armed Forces' INTELLIGENCE gathering setup (whose failure is the single weakest point in this 'war')?

Hansal (Tue Jul 13 1999 5:16 IST)
Why is that everytime we are in the right we fail to capilatise on that in the diplomatic arena??

Shanti (Tue Jul 13 1999 5:18 IST)
Hello Sir, what will be the Indian army's strategy now that the Kargil war is almost over?

piyali (Tue Jul 13 1999 5:18 IST)
Even if the Pakistanis withdraw their troops, what kind of resources will be required to maintain a more stringent watch on these posts to prevent intrusions of this nature in future? Can India afford it?

Radha (Tue Jul 13 1999 5:32 IST)
We have heard Nana Patekar as joined the forces in Kargil? How come? And at the end of the fight is it of any use?

kripa (Tue Jul 13 1999 5:36 IST)
Hello Col, do you agree with an argument that more than the military successes pressure from the U.S. made the Pak. mercenaries and regulars to pull back? What is your perception of the role of the media? Have they behaved responsibly?

SBM (Tue Jul 13 1999 5:38 IST)
Sir, Two questions: Are Carl Gustav rocket launchers issued at section level or platoon level ? In the event of an emergency can the Indian army provide all its troops with NBC masks and suits ? This assumes significance in light of the rumours that Pakistan may have used Chemical weapons in Kargil. Regards Sanjay
